I will discuss two fiscal policy initiatives that I would lobby the Congress to amend in favor of the Apple Company.The discretionary policy is defined as the federal government changing its spending in terms of purchases, taxation and transfers in order to establish macroeconomic goals such as price stability, economic growth and full employment (Braun 2003). This policy can either expand or contract the economy because of expansionary and contractionary fiscal policies respectively. As Apple`s lobbyist I would force the US Congress to enforce the expansionary fiscal policy because it would decrease the amount of tax the company would incur and facilitate the growth of the Apple in terms of sales, profits and its profit margins would immensely increase. This policy can make a positive impact in the Company because it would initiate more production units for its computing systems, devices and mobile devices. It would result to growth of the Company in terms of increased profitability, revenue income and man power because of increa sed jobs (Braun 2003). Minimizing tax on corporate organizations such as Apple would highly benefit the Company because all of its profits and revenues would force the company to expand its operational branches in and out of the United States. Increased productivity within the Company and lenient taxation from the US Congress would also influence the growth of Apple`s operational branches in Europe, Asia-Pacific, Japan and in the retail market (Adams 2007).Lobby groups in the United States have literally revolutionized how people communicate their grievances to Congress and the government. In the recent past, lobbyists in the United States have helped in the implementation of some fiscal policies depending on the country`s economic status. Lobbying efforts are useful and should continue being practiced because lobbyists have in several occasions influenced the federal government`s decision and implementation process of appropriate fiscal policies. Apple`s lobbying efforts in the pa st years amount to millions of US dollars because the Company has been faced with legal tussles over tax evasion for more than 6years (Adams 2007). Seriously, I thought, values are so important and significant in the life of any family, any organization, and to any group, how could they be left to be casually, haphazardly caught? Shouldn’t a person or group be intentional about how it teaches deeply-held values? It seemed careless to leave the communicating of values to something as nonchalant, and perhaps accidental, as allowing them to be caught. In order to catch anything, the one doing the catching must be aware that something is being thrown to them and they must be prepared to receive it. This implies that there is someone on the other end, sending the object to the one who will hopefully catch it. There has to be some sort of relationship between the two and some sort of communication between them, as well. A few years ago, I taught a class to a group of adults at an insurance agency regarding our children and their choice of friends. One of the comments I made was that our children’s friends should hold similar values to our own. When the class was over, two women remained in the classroom and I sat down to visit with them. They told me they were both in the midst of transitions in their lives. They said they understood how  important values are to a family and wanted to know if I would give them a list of values most families would advocate as having the highest value. I told them I could not do that because each family has to reflect on what was most important to them as individuals, and as a family unit. From there, the families go through the difficult process of prioritizing these values, which helps them to determine what they will do, when they will do it, and with whom. I explained that this process is as energizing as it is time-consuming and that it helps a family clarify its identity. When we understand the values that are most important to us, and examine the order of importance of each one, we have created a mission, or purpose, for the life of our family and how we wish to contribute to the world. This family identity is what is caught by our children. They will catch that our family chooses not to be overly busy, so that we can spend time with a grandparent each week. They will also catch that we value exercise because they see us heading to the gym or for a walk. They will also catch that we value spending time with our friends because they will see that we have people over for dinner or to help celebrate a birthday. Literary theorist Todorov asserts that although â€Å"every work modifies the sum of possible works we grant a text the right to figure in the history of literature only insofar as it produces a change in our previous notion of one activity or another†. Donald Barthelme’s â€Å"The Glass Mountain† is an example that expands the notion of short stories; the text challenges readers to find meaning and story where there is none. â€Å"The Glass Mountain† influences and increases the possibilities of short stories, while compelling readers to contemplate the role of short stories. Such engagement between a literary text and a reader results in the most intriguing and merited discussion of genre. The subjective procedure of defining genre appeals to the relationship between text and reader. Genre provides a framework within which texts are interpreted, and expectations and emotional outlooks are the individual results of reading literature. The expectations prompted by conventions in a literary text play a large role in the discussion of genre. For example, Mavis Gallant’s â€Å"From the Fifteenth District† cheats the expectation that arises from the first sentence, â€Å"[a]lthough an epidemic of haunting † (Gallant 115), and surprises readers with the discovery that the story is a reversal of the ghost story. A reader’s personal interaction with a literary work is decisive of genre, for what we think a genre is and the individual’s impression of a literary text often serve to classify a literary work. The individual’s response to literature plays a vital role in the discussion of genre, for literary texts are created for an audience of one. The various means to discuss genre provide insightful observations; however, significant problems are inherent in these discussions. The constantly changing categories of genre and the emergence of new literary works make defining genre a daunting task better left to the individual reader.
